1804: Napoleon Bonaparte  proclaimed Emperor of France: After years of political and military success, Napoleon Bonaparte proclaimed himself Emperor of France and crowned himself  Napoleon I. 

 


  1896: The United States Supreme Court makes the important decision Plessy v. 

Ferguson: In this decision, the court confirmed the principle of "separate but equal", allowing racial segregation in public spaces. This decision had a major impact on civil rights in the United States. 


  1917: The Selective Service Act was passed in the United States: This act authorized the American federal government to create a national army for World War I through conscription, marking the country's participation in the conflict.  

1980: Mount St. erupted in Washington, USA. Helens Volcano. This catastrophic eruption killed 57 people, destroyed homes and severely damaged the surrounding area. 
 

 1991: Somaliland declares independence from Somalia: After the collapse of the central government of Somalia, the Somaliland region declares independence, although it is not recognized internationally  as a separate country. 

 

 2009:  Sri Lanka's civil war ends: The Sri Lankan government declares victory over the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE),  ending decades of conflict.
